Our Story: From Couch Co-op to Community

G’day, gamers! Check out Winspirit, the first-of-its-kind gaming site in Australia. In 2018 in a small flat in Sydney, some mates got together for a coffee and some 11 pm Apex Legends. Something hit them when they spoke throughout the night – the gaming industry needs better! Better than reviews and better than clickbait. Having had many debates on whether Sekiro’s combat is pure genius or nothing but brutal, we set out to do better. A platform that respects your love for gaming as much as we do.

Today, Winspirit is filled with a team of Australian gamers, writers and industry professionals, from Melbourne to Brissy. We’re not just talking about games, we are breaking them down and building a community like your local gaming lounge, but online and with better snacks!

We Play Hard, We Write Smart

We don’t just skim the surface. Every game we cover like a huge RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3 or something like Call of Duty shooter gets full treatment. We play all main storylines and most side content before writing anything. That is a serious amount of hours played. For live-service games, we play them for at least 50 hours so that we gain insight as the game evolves. After playing Cyberpunk 2077 for over 100 hours, we came up with guides that were actually useful, not merely a rehash of the patch notes.

Our squad’s got the cred to back it up. Our expert team includes a former game tester, competitive Overwatch players, and a sound designer who’s worked on Aussie indie hits. We analyze in depth instead of merely repeating marketing materials.

Winspirit is proudly independent, 100% Aussie-owned. No bigwigs or corporate overlords here, mate. We fund ourselves through straightforward affiliate links and our growing community. That allows us to stay true to the game, highlighting the shady launches or blown-out-of-proportion flops without the fear of stepping on toes. When a game’s a ripper, we’ll tell you why. When it’s a mess, we won’t sugarcoat it.

We’d rather write one good article than write a dozen of bad one. You can use gamers guides techniques to master the boss fight yourself with our content. We break down the mechanics so you can learn them yourself. For games such as Elden Ring, we often spend weeks testing builds as well as consulting speedrunners to create guides that are bookmarked by veteran players. Quality over quantity, every time.

Games in Context

A game is just not codes and pixels, it is a family of larger codes. We explore the background and impact of each title. Reviewing a sequel? We’ll compare it to the original. New indie gem? We’ll trace its roots. The “Aussie Gaming Chronicles” series looks at everything from the legacy of local developers Blue Tongue Entertainment to the survival genre in Australia.
