Unlock the Secrets of Monster Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds offers a unique experience that involves more than just killing monsters. The thrill of the chase is always a big part of the game, but it can be just as fun to capture some monsters. This is especially true when time isn’t on your side, or if you’ve had a few too many near misses. Except for Zoh Shia, every tough monster you meet can be caught instead of killed. As a result, this opens up new ways to do quests and save resources. This is very useful especially for hunters who want to end their hunts quickly or recover from failures.

Why Capturing Deserves More Attention

The capturing start comes fairly late in the game adventure and when it does, the instructions feel underwhelming. Players usually achieve capture mechanics after clocking in many hours into high rank hunts. Even at that time, only one fundamental tactic is demonstrated, while numerous tricks remain untouched. This guide explores various capture strategies to help hunters complete missions with ease.

Essential Conditions for Monster Capture

Before jumping into advanced tactics, you need to familiarize yourself with all the key requirements for a capture to be successful.

  • To defeat a monster, you will need to weaken it until it has a skull on the mini or world map.
  • To successfully trap a monster in Monster Hunter Rise, the monster must be effectively caught. You can do this by trapping the monster in a trap of your making. These traps must include the Pitfall or Shock Trap.
  • The player must use two Tranq items on the monster.

If players miss the skull icon because of the action, it won’t be a big deal. Another clue becomes available. Your Palico or hunters will usually let you know when the monster is almost done, so you can capture it.

Classic Capture Method: Trap First, Tranq Second

Typically, the most follows what the game tells you to do in the order it does. Once you’ve dealt enough damage to the monster, lure it to a trap and use two Tranq Bombs.

When you kill your target after a hunt, you get a special end-of-hunt cutscene like killing a monster, which confirms success. Given the simplicity of this technique, it has the following drawbacks: If you use the trap continuously on the same monsters, they will become resistant to that trap and will not get captured in that trap again. Moreover, Support Stalkers and Palicos can use traps without a player noticing and waste chances or hamper Tranq Bombs. So hunters don’t have any complications, they can turn off their trap options for the Support Hunters or tell the traps that they are gonna catch them online.

Reversing the Order: Tranq First, Trap Second

The game doesn’t always point out how flexible the capture process can be. The second option is to weaken the monster, after which you will apply a couple Tranq Bombs to set the trap. The monster gets trapped instantly when you trigger the trap and the hunt is over. This method is easier for many hunters, as they do not have to swap the objects quickly during the battle. Steps should be taken to ensure the monster doesn’t leave the area before the trap is activated. To improve the chances of getting the monster to show, you can use the lure pod so that it stays nearby or wait until it is settled at a new location.

Ranged Tranquilisation: Tranq Blades and Tranq Ammo

Tranq Bombs have a major drawback; they can’t be aimed and are just thrown at the hunter’s feet. Dealing with flying or mobile monsters can prove to be a problem.  Fortunately, alternative options exist. Hunters can make Tranq Blades, a special throwing knife, or use Tranq Ammo with Bowguns. To achieve the capture requirement, two successful hits are needed. The ranged alternatives are more accurate and can be employed without having to put your weapon away. Tranq Ammo is particularly useful for Bowgun users as it will not take up inventory space. Because of their flexibility and reliability, many hunters have adopted these options.
