What’s the Difference Between Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Wilds Armours?

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the specific choice of armour a hunter wears decides how they are going to hunt. This post highlights three vital armor variants: Alpha and Beta, with the new addition of Gamma. Although they come with fine variations, they can shape playstyle and effectiveness.

Comparing Alpha and Beta Armour

Most armor sets of Monster Hunter Wilds comes with 2 versions, the Alpha and the Beta. At first glance, the differences are easy to miss. Whatever colour you choose, the variants both share the same defence and resistance ratings, which will not change.

Despite this, their skill and slot options are where they differ.

  • Alpha armour offers additional preset equipment skills. Therefore, it is great for those who want power without customisation.
  • On the other hand, Beta armour gives more or higher level Decoration slots. This works best for hunters that love making custom builds and optimising with different Decorations.

For instance, Rey Sandgreaves Alpha grants a single level 3 Decoration slot, as well as Latent Power and Maximum Might as level 1 skills. The Beta version includes one level-three Decoration slot, two level-one Decoration slots, and Latent Power at level one. It depends on whether the hunter wants more pre-set skills or whether the hunter wants the ability to modify equipment.

Each set also features unique Group Skills. The Alpha version of Rey Dau comes with the Inspiration Group Skill and the Beta version with Resuscitate. Both sets provide you with the same Armor Set Bonus Skill, Voltages. However, the extra Group Skill may prove useful in different situations.

Gamma Armour: The New Contender

Some monsters, especially Arch-Tempered, unlock a special set of gear. With unique materials dropped by these advanced beings, players can craft Gamma sets with much higher defence values, more advanced equipment skills and a Group Skill.

The Rey Sandgreaves Gamma piece has eight extra points of defence over its predecessor. It has a level-three Decoration slot, level-three Stun Resistance, and level-two Stamina Surge. One feature of the Gamma version is it combines the talents of both the Alpha and Beta versions, sometimes matching or even exceeding the best in the business in the skills category. These abilities are allocated unevenly, creating new opportunities for hybrid builds.

Customisation and Playstyle

Beta armor is often the go-to for hunters who enjoy deep customization, but the new Gamma has a unique twist. Because pieces in Gamma are distributed with a variety of skills, it’s very likely that different combinations with Beta gear can produce interesting builds. This flexibility encourages taking alternative routes using new methods to deal attack with the target-type costly monsters.

In the end, it all depends on how you prefer to play the game.   Some hunters prefer specific skills while others like damage output or defense mechanism. In Monster Hunter Wilds players can choose the piece of equipment that suits their tactics best. Both the strategists and “just hit him” types will be rewarded.
